Maybe this sounds familiar

Maybe every time you wanted something for yourself, you heard the same thing.

“Don’t be so selfish.”

So you became a giver. Now you keep attracting people who only take, exactly the kind of people you can't stand.

Until the day you've had enough, and you swing to the other extreme. Suddenly you overreact, you put up walls, and even a small favor feels like someone taking advantage of you.

Then the guilt comes, and you go back to giving.

It's not only about giving

This happens with qualities you learned were good or bad as a child. You build who you are around one, and you push its opposite away, because that part got you judged.

But pushing it away doesn't make it disappear. It gets buried in your unconscious and keeps running your life. You can see it in the way you overreact, and in the people you keep attracting.

So how do you get out?

Giving connects you to people, but too much of it empties you. Taking connects you to yourself, but too much of it shuts people out. You need both.

GIVING TAKING

We call this

The Third Way

It's not staying who you became. It's not swinging to the other extreme. And it's not somewhere in the middle.

You see the value in both, and you slowly learn to be both. Then neither one scares you or controls you anymore.

The same pattern shows up in love, in work and in what you believe, and the way out is the same every time.

What's in the five days

Each email takes about five minutes to read and ends with one exercise for that day.

  1. Day 1

    The part that wasn't welcome

Find the quality you built yourself around, and the opposite you learned to push away.

  2. Day 2

Where it's still running your life

The swing, the overreactions and the people you keep attracting, and how to catch them while they happen.

  3. Day 3

    What you judge in others

Why the same trait keeps showing up in new people, and what it points to in you.

  4. Day 4

    The value of both

Look at what each side gives you and what it costs you, until neither one pulls at you so hard.

  5. Day 5

    Learning to be both

Small everyday experiments with the part you pushed away, without swinging to the other extreme.

Try this today

Finish this sentence.

“I’m someone who ,
not someone who .”

Most people fill in the first blank right away. The second one takes longer, and it's usually the part you pushed away. Day 1 starts there.

Julian Strong

Who's writing to you

I'm Julian Strong. I've spent years exploring the inner world from every angle I could find, through meditation, shadow work, hypnosis, manifestation and a lot of trial and error.

The Third Way grew out of almost daily conversations with my friend and business partner Thomas. We love the same things but move in opposite ways. He sticks to the plan, and I keep every option open. For years each of us pushed our own side harder, which pushed the other one further the other way. Once we saw the pattern and tried each other's side, the business started to work better. We talk about it on The Third Way podcast.

I'm not writing this from a high horse. I still catch myself swinging to one side. The difference is that I see it happen now, and it doesn't run me the way it used to.

The Third Way isn't a belief system to join, and I'm not a teacher to follow. You test it in your own life, and the only authority at the end of it is you.
